Reflections on the new audience of photography starting with the European project Urban Layers
Thursday, 9th March, from 10am to 7pm, Triennale (viale Alemagna 6, Milan)
A whole day dedicated to the European project “Urban Layers – Identity Flows” which has realised, during 2016, an international residency for 6 young artists in Gibellina (Trapani, Sicily), three urban festivals in the cities of Málaga (Spain), Thessaloniki (Greece) and Lecce (Italy), a research on Audience Development, an exhibition and a workshop in Milan and finally the publication of a book.
The workshop will present the work realised in two years by Urban Layers. Professors and scholars will have the opportunity to analyse interaction processes between artists and public in urban contexts, starting with the research on audience development realised by the Department of History, Society and Human Studies – University of Salento.
Urban Layers, co-financed by the Creative Europe – Culture sub-programme of the European Union, has involved the Department of History, Society and Human Studies – University of Salento (Lead Partner), the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Cinisello Balsamo, Orestiadi Foundation (Trapani), GACMA Arte Contemporanea in Málaga, the Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki and the Institute of Mediterranean Cultures with the collaboration of Positivo Diretto Association.

curated by Matteo Balduzzi
the exhibition contains the projects of the 16 young photographers involved in Urban Layers coming from all over the world, exhibited in an urban set-up made of iron structures and large prints. The projection of the video The encounter by Adrian Paci, an internationally renowned artist who has contributed to the project as a guest, concludes the exhibition, even symbolically, taking us back in the heart of Sicily and recalling the ancestral values of encounter, history and art.
To complete the presentation and dissemination of the European project, a book will be presented, published by Silvana Editoriale. Thanks to the contributions of all partners, the book constitutes a kind of travel diary of the project which shows all the steps of the artistic path.
